Skillet - "WHO CARES WHAT THEY THINK?"

Skillet is a Christian Rock/Metal band. Their songs don't jam religion down your throat though. Their songs are highly positive, empathetic, and give a sense that we're all in this together. Basically their songs exude Christian philosophy and discounts negativity and prejudice that you may find some figureheads with bigger platforms in religion tend to push. They are simply brilliant and unashamedly Christian.

I was lucky enough to see them when they came to Melbourne and the lead singer said this inspiring speech. Understand, they like being Christian, they like the bible, but most of all they like Jesus's philosophy of treating people with love and respect, especially the outcast. Lately it's been open season on Gamers and Heavy Metal fans. If you don't dig Christianity, at least dig the msg of freedom.

Our personal choices in terms of fashion, entertainment, religion, and even our ideas and thoughts are being attacked by people who want a Cultural hegemony
The beauty of the world is its variety.
Anyway check the speech below. I transcribed it from this video

"I got something I want to say about this song here. You guys know that every single day, when all of us here wake up in the morning, no matter where you live, no matter how far you drove tonight, every one of us is going through a war right now. As far as my country's concerned we're not talking about Afghanistan. Tonight i'm talking about a war for our souls.

And in this war, this world will try to tell you...
how to think,
how to talk,
how to dress,
what you can and what you cannot believe in if you want to 'fit in'.
This world may even tell you that having faith in God is a waste of your time.

But the bible says i am not ashamed...
It is the power of God, the salvation for anyone who believes.
So Australia,
WHO CARES WHAT THEY SAY?
WHO CARES WHAT THEY THINK?
This is your life, and we are not afraid."

Amazing Spiderman 2 review as i go

oh man Amazing Spiderman 2 starts so strong, and then takes a HUGE nosedive at 14 minutes in when Peter Parker returns.

Garfield sounds an awful lot like Elias Koteas funnily enough.

Garfield's Peter has no real love/respect for academia, couldn't wait to take that graduation cloak off and wear his sk8er boy tshirt bc he's so cool remember? Don't get bored now that he's not wearing the costume kids!

Also Gwen saying "I break up with you"... who the hell says that?!

And again the movie is made 10 times better in the Spiderman scenes. They got "Spiderman" right. But the problem is Peter was never the nerd that got picked on in school for being smart. So when he's encouraging the kid with the science project, it's not as meaningful or connected to his personal journey as Peter Parker.

HAHAHA Norman Osborne is played by Chris Cooper. "Maniacal laaaaaaugh. Maniacal laaaaaaugh."
Also isn't it weird they're introducing Harry 1/4 into the film? Characters important to the plot are meant to be introduced within the first 15 minutes.

OMG Electro's super villian origin has to be the stupidest i've seen... trying to think of a worse one... nope.

Harry Osborne and Peter Parker, a more convincing  love story than Gwen and Peter.

"He hates a meeeeeeeee" really? Who did the music for this? Mario and Luigi? Also having lyrics that are louder than the dialogue in the scene is crazy confusing.

Wow... Peter Parker is such a douchebag. The woman he supposedly loves gets a potential scholarship to Oxford and all he can say is "England? Really?"

Stereotypical nerds on the news talking about how Spiderman wasn't electrocuted. I wonder if they had pocket calculators. It's like it's ashamed of its original source material and audience.

LOL blooper. Headphones fall out and left on bed, next shot they're still in.

Wait... Peter Parker, geek genius who made the web shooters, needed to watch a YOUTUBE VIDEO to understand that batteries can over charge and explode?!?

Why is Gwen looking up Max? Seems kinda random. And again Petter and Harry make a great couple.

And Peter uses his web device in Oscorp where there's cameras everywhere? Peter BROUGHT is web shooters there?!? Aren't there like, metal detectors or extreme security measures there?

What the hell is with the over the top Dr Kafka? He likes living on the edge.

"Aunt May, Aunt May." *extreme dutch angle* "you have to tell me May"
WOOOOAAH, this dramatic scene is so extreme! The scene is ok but pales in comparison to the similar scene from Raimi's 2nd film.

And now SPIDERMAN is being a dick. I'm with Harry on this one, just give him your blood! Or better yet, you shouldn't have come at all. Don't give a dying man false hope and then pull the rug out.

Yay Peter did a good selfless thing, finally.

So i'm assuming Harry has a controlling stock interest in the company over some lawyer. How the heck can he be fired? Thinking too much, just go with it Tim. Also the footage of when Max was saying "A world without Spiderman" doesn't match the scene it's taken from.

Super secret base still has power running to it and is in perfect working order after 10 years of neglect?
Harry, who is dying, can take on 3 security guards?
"Without my bloodline" really? He didn't have to say that, could have just said blood. Making assumptions that anyone from his bloodline would do isn't very scientific. Also why does Peter's dad sound like Tobin Bell from Saw?

I do like the super villian teamup. It's pretty rad actually.

Is that lawyer insanely suicidal?? Smacktalking Osborne with Electro right there. Injecting a needle into an arm that's holding a gun pointed at him.

Yay, Peter Parker makes a mature choice! Again!

Oh God, Gwen Stacy is schooling Peter Parker on SCIENCE?!? And Gwen knows how to reset a power grid how?? And Gwen was coincidentally working for Oscorp all while being in high shool? What CAN'T she do?

Dubstep Incy Wincy Spider. Hehehe that's pretty funny.

OMG Gwen shut the fuck up! This is life or death, not The View. Stay low and fix the grid if you're able, but don't shout at Peter out in the open for being rational. He wasn't being sexist, you literally have no super powers to protect you. Your Women's Studies course isn't going to save you from Electro frying you to death.

PS. I like The View. It's just, there's a time an place y'know?

Oh man every time Denis Leary shows up in this flick it just looks like he's thinking "the fuck am i doing here? Just think about the money."

Um..... how does Harry know how to fly that thing? At least in Raimi's pictures he knew the flight board, or whatever it's called, existed!

So "that scene" happened. It worked for me. I don't know how it's portrayed in the comic. Apparently fans weren't all that happy.

"I AM RHINOOOOO" LMAO
I love how much Paul Giamatti revels in his over the top villian roles. He was great in Shoot 'Em Up as the villian too.

Final Verdict, at least this one was watchable. The music was friggen terrible though and didn't suit the movie at all. I miss Danny Elfman's score. And Peter Parker is still an annoying skater boi but at least he had a slight turning point in this movie. He just doesn't go through as much of a metamorphosis as Raimi's Peter does. Aunt May scenes were good. There was some hilariously unintended sexual tension between Garfield and Dane DeHaan. I'm still sick of the plot contrivances and departures from the source material.

I'm deciding how many stars i should give it.... Firstly i should define what they mean.

1 star = shit, no redeeming qualities.
2 star = shit, but watchable.
3 star = shitty, but entertaining, good brainless fun.
4 star = great, maybe it doesn't reinvent the wheel but everything works and it's a genuinely good film.
5 star = i want to have this movie's babies, every element is perfectly crafted, the bar has been raised.

I think i'll give it a 2 1/2 stars. It's watchable and also has its moments but i certainly wouldn't watch it again (hense me documenting my thoughts as i went). Hope you enjoyed this.

GTAV Not just hookers

I'm interested in doing a review actually there are some weird ideas about GTAV that all you do is kill hookers or the game asks you "do you want to kill the hooker now?" and your given a "choice". The entire point of a sandbox environment like Skyrim or GTA is it gives you agency and content. Don't like crafting in Skyrim, don't craft. Don't like picking up hookers, then don't. GTA is a commentary on the vapidity and superficiality of LA just like GTAIV was commentary on New York's brashness. It's also a commentary on America post the GFC and housing crisis. Check out the house next door to Franklin that's foreclosed or has an eviction notice. There's this dismissive idea that GTAV has nothing to say about society and is rather dim. If it were a movie or tv show it would be treated differently.
It is, by its own admission, commentary on everything from classism, to sexism, to racism, to image and propoganda, to haves and have nots. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-xHcvug3WI

But you know let's focus on the hookers. That's all the game is right?
Anyway i'm done, the game defends itself.
