Spiderman Homecoming

That was so fun. They find a way to both modernise the story/setting and stay true to Peter Parker. Flash Thompson was a surprising change, showing bullying doesn't always come in the form of swirlys by beefcakes. Great Villians, clever witty banter, realistic teenage problems played by actual teens. The mundane mixed with the fantastic, that's what Spiderman is out. Everyone in the cast was perfect. The Daria-esque Michelle played by Zendaya, and Michael Keaton's brilliant take on the Vulture as a literal scavenger with clear motivation, and Peter's best friend Fred (chair guy!) was a joy and his character's enthusiasm was infectious. Great little easter eggs for things to come, but unlike Amazing Spiderman 1& 2 didn't make you like you were missing story DLC that you would have to shell out more for.

Tom Holland as Peter gives a great performance and you enjoy getting wrapped up in his journey. He is truly the Spidey i know and love, with the thirst for science, high school crushes, and personal discovery of what he's capable of. Tony Stark as sometimes mentor works really well, beingthe person with most screentime in the MCU films. Tomei's aunt May is everything you could hope for, comforting understanding and pretty damn cool honestly. They even make fun of the "hot aunt" aspect the internet was abuzz about.

The diversity of the cast isnt just a welcome change, it also reflects modern day Queens New York and in so doing doesn't feel forced. There is no out of place rhetoric like in Amazing Spiderman 2 (that ultimately caused the death of a character in that film). The social commentary and drama the characters go through rings true and doesn't come off as melodrama (which i still loved in the Sam Raimi Spiderman films but that was due to them being faithful to the comics). Overal really great time, definitely worth seeing. So glad they didn't rehash origin story AGAIN, everyone knows it by now.
